John plays piano on "Take My Hand"
My friend John Jarvis is amazingly talented, and a fantastic person as well. The story of his playing on my record begins one night when he had come to dinner. As he was leaving, I mentioned that I wanted to hire him to play piano on the recording of “Take My Hand.” I knew that he spends a lot of time in in the Nashville recording studios playing piano on a lot of records, and so I invisioned scheduling him some time in the future. But he just said, “Let’s do it!”, then turned and walked into my home studio room. I played him the song twice: once for him to jot down the chords, and the other so he could double-check his notes. In two takes, we were done!
John won “Best Country Song” grammies for two great songs: “Love Can Build a Bridge” co-written for the legendary singing dwo the Judds, and “I Still Believe in You” that he wrote with Vince Gill. John is an astounding pianist with a deep appreciation and understanding of both classical and popular music.
